Cat (Feral)

cvm.tamu.edu/afcatThis may seem like a silly problem but in some cases it can become a real nuisance to deal with. We had this situation run out of control to us when we lived in a rural area.
We needed a cat or two to keep the mice under control. Then we got another one and before we knew it we had 17 adults, juveniles, and kittens running around.
Understandably, we had no mice or rats either. We could not pick the cats up or have any interaction with them. They would be defensive and hiss and try to scratch
at us. The situation had simply gotten out of control and the only thing left to do was to trap them and have them removed. We had an Animal Control Department that
assisted with the trapping and removal. Check with your local animal agencies or police department to see if some sort of assistance is available.
If no assistance were available, cage type traps would be the most convenient way of controlling them in a humane manner. We carry Safeguard brand traps
for their ease of removing a captured animal. This brand of trap has a rear release door that simply pulls up to allow release minimizing the possibility of them
scratching when released. The traps we carry include the following:
Safeguard Std Rear Release Trap M52830 30x11x12,
Safeguard Pro Rear Release Trap M54130 30x11x12,
Safeguard Std Rear Release Trap M52836,
and
Safeguard Pro Rear Release Trap M54136.
Cat food in the small cans serves as good bait.
